Short Text Element Type in WCI feed (WCM Content Integrator)

Web Content Integrator was introduced in the portal 6.1.5 and it is one of best way to import the content into the WCM from the external systems and used this tool so many times in different migrations . But wondered to see that documentation for the short text element is missing in IBM Infocenter/Lotus wiki's product documentation.

Usually you can use text element in feed alternatively like below,

<ibmwcm:element name="Headline">
<ibmwcm:type>text</ibmwcm:type>
<ibmwcm:value>New Product Released</ibmwcm:value>
</ibmwcm:element>

But in scenarios where short text element may be good fit if you are planning to store the string of 255 characters or less (255 bytes).   To use short text element in the feed use it as below

<ibmwcm:element name="userid">
<ibmwcm:type>shorttext</ibmwcm:type>
<ibmwcm:value>srvaka234adf</ibmwcm:value>
</ibmwcm:element>

Cloning JCR repository insteady of syndication or import and export WCM libraries

Syndicating items from one server to another, either after migration or to roll out a new WCM environment can take a long time. Your database backup and restore features can be used to speed up the initial set up and clone data from one repository to another. This makes your system ready for syndication to be used from then on for incremental updates.

Cloning JCR repositoy will be another approach in migration projects to switch from existing system to target WCM system.This will reduce the production switch time dramatically.

Features added or updated for Web Content Integrator (WCI) in 6.1.0.5

Following features are added or updated for Web Content Integrator in 6.1.0.5

1. Added tags to allow inheritance to be enabled or disabled for an item in a feed
2. Reference Elements using their Name and Library instead of GUID (using GUID still supports)
3. Added supportl for handling the content with missing publish Date(empty , invalid)
4. Added support for creating Link Elements (earlier version supported only the upate)
5. Corrected the handling of missing Workflows content (earlier it simply thrown Null pointer but Handled to throw proper exception as this is anyhow a error scenario).

1. Following new tags will enable to allow inheritance to be enabled or disabled for an item in a feed.

Enable user inheritance:
<ibmwcm:access type="user" ibmwcm:inheritance="enabled"/>

Disable user inheritance:
<ibmwcm:access type="user" ibmwcm:inheritance="disabled"/>

Enable contributor inheritance:
<ibmwcm:access type="contributor"
ibmwcm:inheritance="enabled"/>

Disable contributor inheritance:
<ibmwcm:access type="contributor"
ibmwcm:inheritance="disabled"/>

Enable editor inheritance:
<ibmwcm:access type="editor" ibmwcm:inheritance="enabled"/>

Disable editor inheritance:
<ibmwcm:access type="editor" ibmwcm:inheritance="disabled"/>

Enable manager inheritance:
<ibmwcm:access type="manager" ibmwcm:inheritance="enabled"/>

Disable manager inheritance:
<ibmwcm:access type="manager" ibmwcm:inheritance="disabled"/>

2. The WCI, Reference Element is only able to reference components by GUID.
But with most recent update(PM26035) you can also Reference Elements using their Name and Library as below.

Option 1: Component in another Library:
<ibmwcm:element name="Reference-to-component-in-other-library">
<ibmwcm:type>reference</ibmwcm:type>
<ibmwcm:path library="Shared">DefaultHeader</ibmwcm:path>
</ibmwcm:element>

Option 2: Component in the feed library:
<ibmwcm:element name="Reference-to-component-feed-library">
<ibmwcm:type>reference</ibmwcm:type>
<ibmwcm:path>DefaultHeader</ibmwcm:path>
</ibmwcm:element>
